How the mouse test works

Put your cursor in the test area under the title. A drawing of a mouse reacts live to what you press.

  • Left, right and middle click light up the matching part of the drawing. Middle click means pressing the scroll wheel.
  • Back and forward, the two side buttons, light up too. The browser reports them as buttons 3 and 4.
  • Scroll wheel up and down light up for each notch, with a separate count for each direction.
  • A counter per button shows how many presses were received. Use it to check that one press gives exactly one count.
  • Reset sets every counter back to zero.

Inside the area, the right click menu, middle click autoscroll and back/forward navigation are blocked, so you can test everything without leaving the page. Outside the area, the side buttons will make your browser go back or forward.

Limits of a browser test

A web page only sees what the browser reports as mouse buttons. That means:

  • Only five buttons are read: left, right, middle, back and forward. Extra buttons on MMO or programmable mice are not shown.
  • Buttons remapped by Logitech G Hub, Razer Synapse or Corsair iCUE to keyboard keys or macros do not appear as mouse buttons.
  • Wheel tilt (horizontal click) is not counted.
  • Safari on macOS may not report the side buttons.

If a button works here but not in a game, check the game’s key bindings and the vendor software profile before blaming the hardware.

Next step

Once each button counts one press per click, check that the main switches do not chatter with the double click test. If you want to know what sensitivity your sensor really runs at, the DPI analyzer measures it with a ruler. All mouse tools are listed on the mouse hub.

Frequently asked questions

How do I do a right click test without the menu opening?

Right click inside the test area. The context menu is blocked there, so the right button lights up and its counter goes up. Outside the area, right click works as usual.

Why don't my side buttons work on this page?

The test reads back and forward as buttons 3 and 4. If they were remapped in G Hub, Synapse or iCUE to a keyboard key or a macro, the browser no longer sees them as mouse buttons. Reset them to default, or test with the vendor software closed. On a Mac, Safari may not report side buttons at all.

Does the middle click test work if I have autoscroll on?

Yes. Inside the area, the autoscroll that a middle click normally starts is blocked, so you only see the press counted.

Can it test the scroll wheel tilt?

No. Tilting the wheel left and right is not counted. Only scrolling up and down is.

A button does not light up. Is my mouse broken?

Not necessarily. Try another USB port, close the vendor software and test again. If the button still does not register, the switch is likely dead or disconnected.
